ServDes 2027
Designing in the Shadows
June 28-July 2, 2027
Organised by Northumbria University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK
Service Design and Innovation Conference
“Designing in the Shadows – Places and Practices of Service Design in a Polarized World”
ServDes 2027 returns back to the UK and is hosted for the first time in Newcastle Upon Tyne, located in North East England.
A world in pluricrisis mode throws many shadows on people and the planet. ServDes2027 invites academic researchers and professional practitioners to examine what designing in the shadows implies. Together, we aim to identify, highlight, critique and advance our abilities to understand the places and practices of service design in a polarized world. Shadows are not simply black and white. Shadows can benefit people and the environment. Shadows can offer protection from exposure. Shadows can suppress and prevent activities and ideas to see the light of day. ServDes2027 looks for the colours and shades of grey when we conceive, plan, develop and deliver services, when we invent new service possibilities and redesign existing services to improve access and to reduce inequality.
