ONE Planet offers a cohort-based doctoral training partnership at Newcastle and Northumbria Universities. The Natural and Environmental Research Council (NERC) funds the partnership.

The proximity of Newcastle and Northumbria Universities allows ONE Planet to provide a Joint PhD award that includes a series of core cohort activities to best develop the cohort experience, skills and expertise of students and ensure the development of graduates with the required skills.

Our vision is to provide a training environment that develops and fosters innovative, transformative ways of working. We aim to produce independent research scientists and future leaders. They will design sustainable transdisciplinary responses needed to address intensifying global change.

Our internationally recognised research excellence spans the NERC science remit, including:

  • Climate and Climate Change
  • Earth System Processes
  • Anthropocene
  • Environmental Informatics
