Exploring nature and place (making) at the Team Valley Trading Estate
Gallery (Landscape)
“Favourite wooded walk near the Team river, completed every Saturday and Sunday. Sometime if you are lucky you will see a kingfisher or rather just the flash of blue / green as it flies by. Herons and ducks are regular visitors too.”
“Inside the weeping willow tree, looking up. Our dog always deposits her ball at the base of the trunk and we have to go in an retrieve it but its lovely to feel shielded by the branches and leaves. Just beautiful.”
“Beautiful walks through the Team Valley, you wouldn’t think you were only 150 meter from A1.”
“Autumn colours of the trees are beautiful this time of year.”
“So lucky to work on a trading estate that is so near the county side and is tree lined.”
“My favourite tree on the valley, grand weeping willow tree.”
“Mushrooms pushing through, surviving the mulch, living on.”
“Love the big open green space, excellent place the walk the dog and relax.”
Although this looks like wasteland, it’s a good habitat for wildlife, bees/ butterflies, etc.
“Just love the big old trees, showing off the gorgeous colours of nature, well established and good for the earth and natural irrigation.”
“Pine cones, always remind me of woodland walks & countryside, even in the middle of the Industrial Estate.”
“There was a duck or a moorhen in this one, but it disappeared behind the reeds, always lovely to see wildlife in the water…”
“River in summer time is beautiful. When the sun shines on the river it will become very clean.”
“The tree will be coming red on autumn. It’s very beautiful. If there’s more in Team Valley in the same place is awesome.”
“Actually it’s got some ducks on the river. Every year there’s some baby ducks swimming in the river.”
“It’s a little white flower next to the river. If there’s more it’s going to be beautiful.”
“I like this picture because of the falling tree. It Is truly natural and you won’t see this often.”
“(Apart from my thumb on the right hand side) – this is a view of the river from one of the many bridges. It shows a lovely juxtaposition of the business units alongside a perfectly calm river. When I think of nature in Team Valley, I think of the river running through it.”
“I took this picture to remind everyone who works here that we even have a river (River Team) which I imagine a significant proportion of people who work here don’t even realise exists. It’s hard to imagine that it runs parallel to all of the major thoroughfares on TVTE as it is so well hidden, but its our sanctuary and we should all make the effort to take advantage of it more.”
“This photograph tickled me because I never thought I would see so many clusters of mushrooms next to so much office space!”
“I took this to remind myself that within throwing distance of my office is a sanctuary that belies the industrial estate it is situated in.
I like to make a point of coming here on my lunch break to remind myself that none of us who work on TVTE have to resign ourselves to being desk jockies, we just need to leave our offices and take a brisk walk to see what’s out there.”
“This is a beautiful spot to sit and watch the world go by even though it abuts a busy thoroughfare (Queensway). People come along here to walk their dogs so its obviously a locally kept secret used by residents and office workers alike. “
“This is the view from my office. I like to peer outside whilst I am stuck at my desk as the view of the river and trees reminds me that it is more vibrant than being stuck in an office block opposite another office block in the centre of town. I think it’s a beautiful view compared to others I have had in the past which have included a brick wall!”
“You can tell winter coming. Bright red berries on bushes, no birds today. Still part of my walk.”
“Part of my Sunday morning play area. Roads Quiet. Low sun and trees naked this time of year, October.”
“Fungi. In woodland area. Dukesway side/A1 other side. My favourite patch of woodland.”
“While walking with [owner’s dog’s name] from the subway to start our walk on TVTE. Trees –factories! – shrubs.”
“Shrubs and fencing blending in with new factory. Still on our walk!”
“Here’s me smelling a patch of leaves on my patch, having a rest from running around and smelling the woodland.”
“The photo was a deliberate desire to capture one of the most common wildlife sights on the river, the ducks. In terms of meaning, ducks always look content; they’re a happy sight! It’s reminder that nature is never more than a short walk away for those of us working at Team Valley.”
“I was trying to imagine my usual walk as it may appear from the perspective of the wildlife. Whilst the place is familiar, it can be made me to look very different; for instance, the road and river are screened off but it is no less an enjoyable environment for that. It’s interesting to consider familiar environments in novel ways.”
“I wouldn’t be doing Team Valley justice if I hadn’t captured one of its main features. Although instrumental to how the estate was subsequently defined, I still speak to folk who are unaware of the river’s existence. For me it’s an ‘artery’ representing mankind and nature in harmony. The river was a major civil engineering project of its time so there is the elegance of a manmade, waterway running parallel to the road, yet it has the beauty of the growth and wildlife. It’s a delight to walk by the river and to be able to see it from my office.”
“Although the shrubs caught my eye, I like the picture because it demonstrates that the built environment, cultivated landscaping and natural growth can come together in harmony. In many ways this encapsulates the essence of the estate that I most enjoy; it may be a prosperous commercial environment, but it’s certainly not a grey and faceless ‘machine’.”
“There is a squirrel just in the long grass. “
“This image captures a whole picture of what the Autumn season is like on the valley with the trees changing from green to different shades of orange and the skies turning darker.”
“This is the river that runs past and under the bridge next to our park. You can see fish and other water life when you walk past either coming into work or if you fancy just taking a few minutes.”
“One of the few park benches that are around our park, in the summer people sit out here and have their lunch whilst the sun is out.”
“This one was some of the autumn trees losing their leaves, thought it looked quite nice comparing the grey of the clouds to the vibrant colour of the leaves.”
“I walk past these berries every morning, or did for the months around taking this picture. They were always a splash of colour first thing, despite everything else being bare.”
“My View across the Valley at the start of my morning walk. The asymmetry of development in the Team Valley is the source of much musing on my part. Across the Valley from the housing estates I walk through there are open fields — if not exactly natural then at least closer to it than the roads and buildings that surrounded me as I took the picture.”
“Two pairs of ducks on the Team itself. It’s something of an unusual sight, there are plenty of gulls and rooks around, but very few ducks. I find the birds of Team Valley quite an interesting sight, thinking about how they’ve adapted to the industrial landscape, but none would sit still long enough to have their picture taken so these ducks are my symbol for the birds of the Valley.”
“The last rose of Autumn, outside the offices where I work at least. There are several rose bushes and all had lost their flowers save for this last one, which was somewhat difficult to capture from the front. This shot actually looks across the Team, to the considerably less well-kept bank, the comparison between the carefully curated garden on my side and the semi-wild across the river is interesting to me.”
“Blue skies and trees in bloom on Western Avenue, Team Valley.”
“Morning view on Team Valley.”
“Flying solo on its own, on Princess Way, Team Valley.”
“Birds in flight on Princess Way, Team Valley.”
“Greeted by a dawn chorus of seagulls on Western Avenue, Team Valley.”
“This would have been taken late summer. I had the door open as it was a beautiful day to let in some air. Opposite in the trees there were two magpies.”
“This was taken in mid-Autumn. Leaves have changed colours and most of them have fallen off the tree branches. In the trees was a little bird tweeting.”
“The beauty of the seasonal changes captured in the leaves turning from the greens to the autumnal reds and oranges.”
“A brilliant blue sky showing how no matter whether we are at work, we can see beauty and enjoy beautiful sky that makes the day better.”
“The beautiful bright sunny day always makes everyone feel better.”
“Industrial railing with berries saying what working in the valley is about: industrial with natural beauty.”
“A single bird in a grey sky showing how sometimes we all crave some time on our own, the beauty of a solitary bird in a solitary moment.”
“Bird feeders in the trees.”
