“New Approaches to Migration History” event on 3 September

On 3 and 4 September, members of the project team and advisory board for our project on “University Students as Migrants” will come together for a series of meetings.

Given the presence of a range of specialists, our team has decided to organise a workshop that is open to other scholars and students. This is an in-person event at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, taking place on Thursday 3 September from 3 pm to 5:15 pm. Attendance is free; if you would like to register, please email Daniel Laqua. The event is divided into four panels.

Panel 1 – Migration Regimes in National and International Contexts

  • Angéline Escafré-Dublet (Université Lumière – Lyon 2) – ‘A Political History of Immigration in France’
  • Marcia Schenck (Universität Potsdam) – ‘Displacement, Decolonization and Development: The Making of the African Refugee Regime’
  • Chair: Jodi Burkett (Portsmouth University)

Panel 2: Student Mobilities and Migration

We are grateful to the funders for our project – the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) – as well Northumbria University’s Race and Migration IDRT, which has provided additional support for this event.
