Northumbria Disaster Resilience Research in Top 20 for Global Development Impact

Disaster Development Network UKCDSResearch on community resilience to disasters led by the Disaster Development Network at Northumbria is featured in a list of the top 20 impact case studies focusing on global development issues. The top 20 were selected by UKCDS, a group of 14 UK government departments and research funders working in international development, from around 400 case studies related to development out of the nearly 7,000 submitted to REF2014.

Northumbria’s research strengthened resilience to disasters through local community involvement and has “influenced the disaster strategies of local governments across Southern Africa and South Asia, giving community groups a central role in risk identification and management.”
