Aims:

There are two strands to this Learning Circle:

  1. Celebrating, recognising and rewarding teaching
  2. Developing and supporting teaching

This Learning Circle aims to investigate policy and practice at Northumbria, nationally and globally for the development, support, celebration, recognition and reward of teaching, with a view to developing policies and practice that:

1. Celebrating, recognising and rewarding teaching:

  • Raise the profile of teaching and education.
  • Celebrate teaching excellence.
  • Recognise and reward teaching.
  • Promote parity of research and teaching.
  • Support teaching/education career development.
  • Consider how teaching and education is recognised and rewarded in recruitment, probation, PDA and promotion.
  • Recognise and celebrate the contribution of technical and professional support staff to teaching and education.

2. Developing and supporting teaching:

  • Promote collaboration to enhance practice, specifically through mentoring and peer observation and support (PSF V5).
  • Develop guidelines and good practices for teaching mentoring.
  • Develop policy and practice for Northumbria’s Peer Observation and Support  Scheme.
  • Provide support for specific teaching roles, including PG supervision, and support for international colleagues, and for particular groups, including professional and technical staff and PGRs who teach.
