The prize is awarded on an annual basis, in recognition of &#8220;the outstanding PhD thesis on a historical topic submitted in a Canadian university&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matt&#8217;s PhD thesis, which is now under contract for publication with McGill\u2013Queen&#8217;s University Press, is entitled &#8220;A Longing for Saint-Domingue \/ A Longing for Haiti: Haiti and the Rise and Fall of French Africa&#8221;.
