Project: An investigation into the timing and processes involved in formation of the dry valleys on the Chalk of southern Britain

My research focuses on the timing and formation processes of the dry valleys present on the Chalk of southern Britain. The question addressed is when and how was the landscape formed from the low relief surface inherited at the end of the Tertiary and is this a periglacial process. The understanding of this process is important for knowledge of landscape evolution in changing climatic conditions and has significance for planning major engineering projects eg infrastructure, windfarms etc as the behaviour of the rock is dependent upon weathering conditions.
