Fully-funded PhD studentships available for September 2020 entry

These awards are for 3.5 years and include full UK/EU fees and a living allowance of £15,009 (based on the current UKRI rates). A Research Training Support Grant for project costs (travel, consumables etc.) is also provided. The closing date for applications is 31st January 2020. We will confirm the outcome of awards in March 2020.

ONE Planet offers a cohort-based doctoral training partnership at Newcastle and Northumbria Universities. The Natural and Environmental Research Council (NERC) funds the partnership.

The proximity of Newcastle and Northumbria Universities allows ONE Planet to provide a Joint PhD award that includes a series of core cohort activities to best develop the cohort experience, skills and expertise of students and ensure the development of graduates with the required skills. 

Our vision is to provide a training environment that develops and fosters innovative, transformative ways of working. We aim to produce independent research scientists and future leaders. They will design sustainable transdisciplinary responses needed to address intensifying global change.

Our internationally recognised research excellence spans the NERC science remit, including:

  • Earth System Processes
  • Anthropocene
  • Environmental Informatics
